God is waking up something in people right now—and if you’ve been feeling a renewed stirring to create, dream, or finally take your creativity seriously, I don’t believe that’s something you should ignore.
Maybe a creative dream you thought was gone keeps coming back. Maybe you haven’t created in years, but suddenly you feel drawn to begin again. Or maybe you’re realizing that your creativity isn’t just something you do—it’s part of who God created you to be.
In this video, I share why I believe God is awakening and reawakening Christian artists and creatives in this season, what that awakening has to do with your identity in Christ, and why your creativity has a much greater Kingdom purpose than simply making beautiful things.
We’ll explore how God can use art, beauty, story, music, writing, design, and other forms of creative expression as places where people encounter His truth, goodness, healing, hope, and presence.
I’ll also share a revelation God gave me years ago about the relationship between faith and creativity—and why creating in partnership with the Holy Spirit can become a powerful way of giving visible form to what God is revealing in the unseen.
If something inside you has been saying, “It’s time to create again,” this message is for you.
Your creative calling didn’t expire because life got complicated. God hasn’t forgotten what He put inside you. And the dreams He planted in your heart may be stirring again for a reason.
🙏 Be sure to watch until the end, because I’ll pray specifically for God to awaken and reawaken everything He has placed inside you—and give you the courage to faithfully respond.
If this message resonates with you, leave a comment and tell me: What is God awakening in you creatively right now?

A Supernatural Stirring In Creatives
SPEAKER_00God is awakening something supernatural in creative people all over the world right now. And I believe that's exactly why you're here. See, God knows exactly who you are, where you are on your creative journey, and everything that he's placed inside of you. And so today I want to share with you why I believe this supernatural awakening is happening among creatives all over the world right now. And most importantly, what it means for you. And hey, be sure to hang around to the very end because I'm going to pray specifically for you, for God to awaken and reawaken everything that He's placed inside of you. So let's jump in. Well, hey, my friend, I'm Matt Tommy. And every week, right here on the channel, I help Christian creatives just like you become everything that God created you to be. So make sure you like and comment on this video and also subscribe so you never miss any of the great content that I'm producing every week right here for creative folks who love Jesus. All right.
A Calling To Raise Artists
SPEAKER_00Now, let me tell you a little bit about why I feel so strongly about what I'm sharing with you today, because some of you may know if you've been around the channel for a while. Back in 2009, God gave me a really specific calling to raise up an army of artists all over the world. And honestly, when that happened, I had no idea what all this was was going to look like. But for now, you know, for 15 years, over 15 years now, I've had this really incredible privilege of mentoring and walking with thousands of creatives and artists all over the world. And because of that, I've kind of had a front row seat to all that God's doing in their lives. And I get to hear people's stories about what God's stirring inside of them. I get to see the struggles and, you know, the things they're walking out of, the dreams that they're walking into. And listen, I'm just telling you, right now, God is shifting something and stirring something in creatives in the body of Christ more than I've ever seen. It's like there's this acceleration that's starting to happen. I'm seeing dreams that have been dormant in people for years, starting, you know, suddenly starting to come back to life. Ideas that maybe have been sitting on the shelf for years. All of a sudden, people are starting to pursue them. People that haven't created in years, they're like, I got to create. I can't keep ignoring this. Like, I don't know what else inside of me, but I know that there's something that God wants to do that's that's got to get out of me. I'm seeing people that have spent years taking care of everybody else's priorities in their life suddenly start realizing, hey, wait a minute. God put something inside of me too that's really important. People that that thought their creative season was over are all of a sudden starting to dream again. And people who've dismissed their creativity as impractical or unimportant or even selfish are starting to begin to realize, no, this is a huge part of what God has created me to be. And listen, maybe that's you too. Maybe something that you've tried to ignore is starting to come back in your life. Maybe you're increasingly becoming dissatisfied with the status quo in your own life. And maybe there's a dream that you thought you'd buried years ago that has to do with your art and creativity that for some reason is starting to stir and kind of bubble up inside you again. Maybe you're starting to say, I just can't put this off. Listen, I want you to start considering the possibility today that that stirring, that that bubbling and awakening that you're feeling inside is not random and it's surely not selfishness. Maybe it's God supernaturally awakening something inside of you. Maybe that dream that keeps coming back is because God hasn't forgotten it. Maybe he's inviting you to remember something that maybe you forgot about yourself, but he never did. And listen, because of that, I think it's one of the most important things that we got to realize right now.
Creativity Is Not Selfish
SPEAKER_00God isn't just awakening what creative people do, he's awakening us to who we are in him. And that is a huge distinction. Because listen, and I really want you to get this down deep in your spirit today. Your creative expression was always God's idea, way before it was your idea. Remember, you and I were made in the image of God, in the image of a creator, right? Before you ever picked up a paintbrush or sang a song or touched clay or danced or wrote a story, picked up a camera or whatever else that is, you know, that you do creatively. God knew you. And your creativity was not some random extra thing that he decided to tag onto your personality. It was one of the primary, beautiful ways that his image gets expressed through your life and for my life. And so, friend, I think one of the things that God is reawakening right now in his people, especially as artists, is this idea of remembrance, right? He's reminding us of our God-given uniqueness. He's reminding us again as artists, is for who we are in Christ. He's reminding us of what he put inside of us. He's reminding us that our creativity matters because it matters to him. He's reminding us that becoming who he created us to be is not selfish. And listen, hear me today really deep on this. Your creating and your creative expression is not selfish. Making room for it in your life and for your creative calling is not selfish. Becoming excellent at your craft, whatever you do creatively, is not selfish. Wanting your creative life to flourish like God intended is not selfish. Because becoming who God designed you to become is actually one of the best ways, the primary ways to honor the one who designed you this way in the first place. Listen, I think some of you desperately need to hear that today. I need to hear that again today because somewhere along the way for all of us, life just happens, right? Responsibility happened, kids happen, jobs happen, disappointments happen. We walk through seasons where we get rejected. Maybe church hurt happened, right? And somewhere along the way through all the stuff of life, the creative part of us just keeps getting pushed down further and further and further down the list. And eventually, and again, this happens to everybody, you start wondering if it even matters, if it ever mattered to begin with. But listen, friend, I want you to get this. What God put inside of you is not dead. It's very much alive. And your calling did not expire because life got complicated. God didn't change his mind because you got older. Listen, he surely didn't forget the dreams and the desires that he planted inside your heart. And so just because you've walked through some stuff, right? Some disappointment in all these years of living does not mean that God's forgotten you. Maybe it's meaning that he's wanting to awaken something inside of you that's been there all along. And listen, if you're starting to realize that, wow, I maybe this is me, but you're you're not really sure how to start walking forward in this creative calling, especially in this season, I want you to know that's exactly why I created the Thriving Christian Artist Pathway course and coaching community. I'll be sure to put a link down here below the video if you want to check it out. But here's the bigger question that I really want to get
Art As A Doorway To Encounter
SPEAKER_00to. Why is God awakening creative people at this moment in history? Well, listen, I believe one of the biggest reasons is because God wants to release His transforming life and light through what we create in ways that people can actually encounter. I mean, think about it. God has given all of us, creative people, this incredible supernatural ability to work with story and beauty and emotion and things like sound and light and color and texture and words and movement and images and idea and all these beautiful creative languages and materials that have the ability to move past somebody's internal defenses and actually touch their heart in really deep and meaningful ways, in transformative ways. And listen, that's important because there are millions, millions of people in this world who may never, ever walk in a church. They may never, ever listen to a sermon, may reject it. They may not even consider themselves religious or even think they're interested in God. But listen, they'll watch a film, they'll listen to a song that you created, they may walk into an art gallery, they may read a novel that you write, they may see a photograph that you took, they they may encounter a piece of art that you created. And when they do, something is gonna stop them in their tracks. The Spirit of God. And suddenly, in that moment, guess what? Something can happen. They feel something, they they remember something. All of a sudden, hope starts rising through their disappointment. All of a sudden, beauty breaks through in their darkness. Their heart starts to open up again. And in that moment, guess what? There's not just a little emotional moment happening. God is using and can use and will use what you created as an intersection point where heaven touches earth. Friend, that's why our creativity matters so much. We're not just, we're not just filling the time, we're not just making stuff, we're not just decorating the world, right? I mean, we're not just entertaining people in what we do as artists. Listen, as sons and daughters of God who are filled with his spirit, we have this incredible opportunity to partner with him creatively and give form and structure and experience to things that originate in his heart. You know, I've often said that we artists get to operate as gate openers, right? Where we have this incredible ability to open a door for somebody through beauty and creativity that invites people to experience something they may have never encountered in another way. And you know, I look at that, that's what Jesus did, right? I mean, and think about it. That's that's how he communicated. Jesus didn't just walk around asking people to make decisions, you know, do you love me? Are you going to heaven? You know, he didn't go around, you know, giving theological treatises. He told stories that created movies and pictures in their minds about seeds and fields and shepherds and sheep and coins and pearls and weddings and vineyards and fathers and sons. In other words, he he took eternal truth and he wrapped it in image and story in an emotion in ways that ordinary people could see and feel and remember. You know why? Because story and imagery and emotion and beauty have sticking power. And listen, your art and my art have that same supernatural sticking power too. Something happens when God's truth gets wrapped up in beauty and gets inside of his people, it it ends up bypassing some of those defenses that people often put up. It it gives people an opportunity not to merely understand something intellectually, but to really encounter it and experience it. And I believe that's one of the unique assignments that God has given creative people right now in this generation is to take beauty and truth and goodness and all the truth of the kingdom, the things that we're seeing and hearing and sensing as we walk with him, and give those things form and opportunity to impact others in a powerful
When Art Becomes Evidence
SPEAKER_00way. You know, years ago when I was writing my book, Creativity According to the Kingdom, the Lord showed me something about this whole thing that we're talking about today that just really completely changed the way that I understood creativity. He told me to replace the word faith with the word art every time I would see it. And so he started kind of leading me through some scriptures and I was like, is this okay to do? But you know, in Hebrews where it says, you know, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the the evidence of things not seen, I said, okay, um, art is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. And the more I thought about it, the more I was like, uh, yeah, it is, right? I mean, everything that we create starts as an impression, a hope, a dream, a desire inside of our mind, inside of our spirit. And when we see it and we agree with it, and then you know, we agree with it through the work of our hands and we release it, what happens? Well, that which was unseen now becomes seen. In other words, it becomes the proof that what we saw internally is actually real and it is now showing up externally, right? So that was like, wah, blew my mind, right? And then the Lord was like, okay, you know, keep going. And I'm like, is this really okay, Lord? And so I read that scripture about where Jesus says, you know, uh, with the faith of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, be moved and be cast into the sea, and you know, it'll be cast into the sea. And so I was like, Lord, you mean with the art of a mustard seed, I can say to this mountain, be moved and and it'll be cast into the sea? Lord, like what are you saying with this? And he started showing me that if art, you know, just a little bit of art, just a little bit of our creative expression, is really just the tangible representation of our agreement with what he's showing us in the spirit. And that if if he gives us the inspiration to create something with his power and leads us by his spirit, of course, in a moment, right? Bam, he can use that creative expression to dislodge mountains in people's lives. I mean, wow. I was like, you mean he can use my creative expression to bring healing and deliverance and restoration and life into people's lives? And it's not even about my talent, but because of I'm I'm just willing to see and agree with him. I mean, that was just that just blew my mind. And then if that wasn't enough, he took me to that verse that says, you know, without faith, it's impossible to please God. And I was like, what? Like, what are you saying? Or like without art, it's impossible to please God? And he showed me again, again, if the essence of our artistic expression, just like faith, is that we see and agree with heaven, then absolutely operating outside of that process, if we're if we're operating outside the process of that, it's impossible to please him. It's just wood, a, and stubble, right? Just striving on our own. I mean, I was blown away. See, see, as artists, we perceive things with the Lord that don't yet exist in physical form. And when we agree with him and agree with those things in our heart and and through the work of our hands, what happens? We we give them form. The the invisible becomes visible, the the intangible becomes tangible. And something that only existed as a dream or an emotion or desire or a revelation suddenly becomes what? Well, it becomes your painting and my song and my sculpture and a film and and a story or a dance, a movement performance, or maybe a poem or a design for a building or a business or whatever. In other words, something another human being can actually encounter. And listen, when we're doing that in partnership with the Holy Spirit, friend, there is absolutely no limit on what God can do through that in that moment, because our art in that moment becomes an intersection point in somebody's life where God can release healing, where he releases hope, where where somebody experiences freedom for the first time, where they can, their eyes are open and they start seeing beauty again, where where their heart gets open to the the truth of the gospel and God's love. Maybe they begin to see themselves differently. Maybe they begin to see God differently and what's possible in their life. And listen, that's why. That's why I believe God is awakening creative people right now, all of the world, because listen, the world just doesn't need another art project or more information. I mean, good Lord, we are drowning in information, especially religiosity and religious information. The world needs an encounter with God and his truth and his beauty and his goodness. The world needs an encounter with the presence of God and with the love of God. And listen, you and I, as creative people, we've been uniquely designed to carry those things into places that traditional ministry may never reach. Now, listen, I want you to hear what I'm not saying. Don't hear what I'm not saying. I'm not saying that art replaces the traditional preaching of the gospel, that we should get rid of the church, all that. Of course not. What I'm saying is that God has always had a ton of ways of reaching the human heart. And I believe he's awakening creative people right now, you and me, because he wants his sons and daughters carrying his presence into every corner of culture, into galleries and theaters and film and television, into publishing, into music, into design, into workshops, into businesses, into homes and schools and communities, and into every place where people are already living their lives. Because listen, God's plan for artists was never, never that we hide inside the church making Christian stuff for other Christians. We're called to be salt and light. We're called to be this beacon on a hill. We're called to carry his presence in the world through what we do. And again, that's why I think this awakening that's happening right now is so much bigger than, you know, oh, I wish I had more time to paint, or I've always wanted to write a book, or I just love doing my little hobby over here. Maybe someday I'll finally make that album or whatever. Listen, there is a major, massive kingdom purpose attached to your life and to your creativity. And there are people on the other side of your obedience, people, people who God wants to touch to the things that you're going to create that don't even exist yet because you haven't had you haven't made them yet. And listen, I'm not saying that to pressure you, I'm saying that to to give purpose, right? And and weight to what God has placed inside of you because maybe you've been treating what you do as as optional, this kind of you know, thing that's just extra when God's saying this thing is sacred. And that's why this awakening, I think, requires a response. Because it's one thing to feel like, oh yeah, I feel the goosebumps. Maybe God's stirring something inside of me. It's another thing for you to say yes to it. Now, in a moment I want to show you what that can actually look like in your life, but but first, uh there's another part of this awakening that I think is really, really critical for you to understand.
Your Life As A Sign And Wonder
SPEAKER_00Because I I don't believe that God only wants to work through the works of our hands to create signs and wonders. I believe he wants our lives to become signs and wonders. I believe God wants to raise up a generation of creative people whose lives demonstrate the goodness of God. Artists who are living with supernatural joy and peace, supernatural creativity and grace, and yes, in supernatural provision for everything that we do. Because listen, I just believe, again, I talk about it all the time here on the channel, but for far too long, the prevailing testimony of creative people has just been struggle, just barely getting by, burnout, chaos, barely enough, right? That old starving artist mentality. And I do not believe for one moment that that's the testimony that the Father has for us as sons and daughters who are carrying his presence into the world. Now listen, that doesn't mean that all of us are supposed to be rich and be driving Ferrarities and Rolls Royce's. No, of course. There's gonna be hard seasons. We're gonna walk through difficulty. It certain certainly doesn't mean that we never have to learn any skills or steward our gifts or or build businesses and make wise decisions and do the practical things. Of course we do. But I absolutely believe that our lives are supposed to demonstrate the nature of our Father and his kingdom, that he's always good, that he's eternally faithful, that he's unlimitedly creative, that it, that he's abundant more than we could ask or imagine, that he gives wisdom, that he always provides, that he's not standing up there disconnected from us in heaven saying, Well, you know, I gave you this incredible calling, but good luck in figuring it out on your own how to survive. Listen, that is not a picture of the God of the Bible. He is a good father. And I believe part of what God's reawakening right now is a generation of artists who aren't just learning how to make beautiful things. We're learning how to build beautiful lives with Him. Lives where creativity isn't just being constantly squeezed out to the leftovers of the corners of our life where they're living lives. We are all living lives, where our gifts are being faithfully stewarded, where our relationships are healthy, where we're growing in skill, where we're learning how to prosper in the marketplace without selling our soul to this old, you know, hustle and striving culture out there, where where we can be generous, crazy generous, where where the work of our hands is becoming a testimony to the goodness of God. In other words, listen, your art can become a sign and a wonder, but so can your life. And listen, I believe God absolutely 100% for you right now wants both.
Simple Next Steps Forward
SPEAKER_00So, friend, listen, I want to bring all this back to you because maybe as you've been listening to this today, maybe you started recognizing yourself in what I've been talking about. Maybe that creative desire that's always been inside of you, maybe today just by watching this, it's starting to get a little stronger. Maybe you started feeling that old dream start to come back. Maybe you're started suddenly thinking about creating again after years of putting it on the shelf. Maybe you've been feeling increasingly uncomfortable lately with just living a life where part of you never really gets expressed. Listen, if that is you today, again, I want you to hear me. Please don't automatically dismiss that stirring as being selfish. Please don't talk yourself out of it because it's not practical or whatever, because everybody else thinks it's crazy. And for goodness sake, don't assume that because you've waited this long, somehow you've missed your opportunity. Instead, I want you to just ask the Lord a really simple question. Just ask him, say, Holy Spirit, what are you awakening in me right now? And just take a moment to listen to him. Even if you have to put this on pause right now, because remember, what God put inside of you is still very much alive. And if he's awakening you to it again, uh, your job is not to get it all perfect or not to make up for all this lost time. It's just to say yes. It's maybe just picking up the paintbrush again, maybe opening that manuscript or Or maybe just getting back in the studio, maybe making a creative space in your house, maybe writing that song that's been rolling around inside of you. Maybe, maybe it's finally just taking your creativity seriously enough to develop the skills that you know you need. Maybe it's starting to sell your work. Maybe you need to learn some of the practical things to do that. Maybe it's just taking the dream off the shelf and saying, okay, Lord, I don't know where to begin with this, but I'm ready to walk with you. Listen, you don't have to understand the whole assignment to begin to obey today's invitation. You just have to take that next step forward, the next faithful step, the little bitty step. And listen, if you're sitting here thinking, well, Matt, that's exactly where I am. I know that God's awakening in something, something in me, but honestly, I have no idea how to move forward. Again, I want to remind you, that's exactly why I created the Thriving Christian Artist Pathway in our coaching community. For years, uh over 15 years now, I've helped Christian artists just like you move from confusion and fear and inconsistency and isolation into clarity and confidence and momentum in their creative calling. Not by hustling or trying harder or all that, but not by becoming somebody they're not, but by learning how to align with God, renew their minds, create consistently, understand who they're called to serve in the marketplace, and start faithfully building a creative life and a business that fits the season of life they're in. Listen, if that's something that you're ready to take a step in, I would love to help you. And you can find out all the details about that pathway again, right here under the video. You just click the link and all the details are right there. All right. Now
A Prayer To Reawaken Gifts
SPEAKER_00listen, I promise I'm going to pray for you. And listen, I really want you to receive this today because, again, I don't I believe that you're here by divine appointment. I believe that God wants to wake people up today that have been creatively asleep, maybe for a long time. Not because God stopped loving you, not because you stopped loving God, just because life happened, right? Disappointment happened. Maybe the enemy got you off track. Whatever fear happened, maybe rejection or disappointment or something happened along your way that just got you off track. It's and it maybe it just got you to believe in your mind that you really couldn't be what God called you to be as an artist or as a creative person anymore. Listen, I believe the Holy Spirit wants to awaken that thing in you again. So right now, wherever you are, I just want to invite you to open your heart to Him as I pray. Father, I thank you right now in Jesus' name. Lord, I thank you for every creative person that's watching me right now, wherever they are in the world. Lord, I thank you that you're awakening them. And Father, I pray right now that by your spirit you would reawaken every gift, every purpose, every plan that you've put inside of them right now. God, I thank you for the things that have been dormant. I thank you that for the things that have felt dead. I thank you for the dreams, Lord, that have got swept into the corners of their life that they never thought could ever happen in their life. Father, I thank you right now that by your spirit, Lord, you're starting to awaken them. You're starting to wait to awaken them to possibility. You're starting to awaken them to your goodness. You're starting to give them a view of your provision in the kingdom. You're starting to give them faith to start taking those tiny steps, even when they don't make sense to everybody else that's around them. Father, I thank you that you're starting to reawaken passion to create again. Father, I thank you for witty inventions and new ideas. God, I thank you for intel by the spirit of open doors and opportunities, supernatural encounters with you, God, divine appointments. That as people just do the simple thing of saying yes and taking the next step on the journey, that God, you would confirm their path in such supernatural ways that there would be absolutely no way that they could say that God's not in this. And so, Father, I also speak right now to the brokenhearted. Father, I speak right now to the brokenhearted, and I say, be healed in Jesus' name. Listen, if you've been disappointed, if you've been fearful, if you've been anxious, if you've been hurting because something jumped in your heart, something the enemy sent a fiery dart your way, and it wounded you to the point of shutting down your creativity. Listen, I want you to open your eyes right now. I'm speaking to you. Father, in Jesus' name, I speak to this person right now, and I say, be healed in Jesus' name. Come alive again in Jesus' name. I speak to disappointment and anxiety and fear and insecurity in Jesus' name, and I say, you must go. You've got to go. Be replaced with the life and light of God. Father, I thank you that your word says that you've not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind. So, Father, I pray right now for my friend, Lord, that power and love and a sound mind would quicken inside of them right now. God, awaken them to the spirit of God that's living inside of them. God, I pray for where there's been fear, let there be faith. Where there's been anxiety, let there be boldness, God, in Jesus' name to step into everything that you have called them to. Father, I bless them. I bless them as a part of this army that you're raising up all over the world. I speak life over them. I speak purpose over them. I speak connection over them. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
