Most artists are trained to measure “provision” by one thing: money. We’re challenging that idea and getting painfully practical about what God may already be giving you right now if you know how to see it and steward it. If you’re a Christian artist trying to build a sustainable art career, grow your creative business, or simply stop feeling stuck, this conversation reframes provision as partnership, not waiting.

We walk through five channels where God often provides for creatives: ideas that arrive like seeds, the creative gift he’s already placed in you, supernatural favor that accelerates timing, divine appointments that open doors through relationships, and the “what’s in your hand” resources you already have today. Along the way, we talk about why so many artists stall out in fear, self-doubt, and disappointment, and how consistent studio practice and skill-building can be stewardship rather than striving. We also unpack why hidden seasons don’t mean you’ve been forgotten and how favor works best when you keep walking by faith.

Then we land on a multiplying principle from Matthew 25: God increases what we steward faithfully. That single shift changes how you approach your next idea, your craft, your connections, and your daily choices. If you want more clarity, more momentum, and a healthier mindset around art and finances, press play and take notes. Subscribe, share this with an artist friend, and leave a review with the one kind of provision you’ve overlooked the most.

Why Provision Looks Different

SPEAKER_00

You know, God has supernatural ways of providing for you as an artist. And chances are you're already experiencing some of those ways right now. You probably just haven't recognized them yet. And so today I'm going to show you five of those ways so that you can start cooperating with God to actually see his abundant provision start flowing in your life and instead of just waiting on money to show up. And hey, be sure to stay with me to the very end of this video because I want to share with you one powerful principle that God's shown me over the years that actually multiplies provision in your life in a supernatural way. Well, hey, my friend, I'm Matt Tommy. And as somebody that's been a working artist for over 30 years and mentored thousands of Christian artists around the world, I've seen so many well-meaning artists miss the abundant provision that God's trying to bring in their life simply because it didn't look like money in their bank account right off the bat, right? And listen, that's why today is so important because you know the Bible says in Deuteronomy 8.18 that it's God that gives you and me the ability to create wealth. And in doing so, it actually confirms his covenant with us. Listen, this is so beautiful because now, as new covenant believers, right, we're living in the reality, in the fulfillment of that covenant, empowered by the Holy Spirit to walk this out in our everyday lives. And the first way that I've found that God provides supernaturally through artists is actually the provision of ideas. See, ideas are like seeds. And when he does that, we get into this sort of divine flow, right? Those moments where ideas are coming and inspiration is flowing and things are kind of clicking in your imagination. Listen, that's not random. That's actually the Holy Spirit moving in and through you with dreams and visions and impressions and those nudges you feel. Listen, that's God trying to plant something in your heart. And when that happens, the Bible says, what? Well, write the vision down, make it plain so that the runner can run with it. See, most of us artists, we don't have a lack of ideas. We've actually got a lack of stewardship, right? We get something in that flow and then we start to question it or overthink it or second guess it or maybe even talk ourselves out of it. But listen, when we do that, that actually stops this divine flow of ideas. See, if you want to cooperate with how God provides for you as an artist, you got to honor that flow of ideas. Capture those ideas, right? Plant those seeds, right, write it down, journal it, pray into it. And then more importantly, after you do that, start taking small steps toward it day after day. Listen, don't wait for those ideas to be perfect, to get all the clarity, right? Clarity doesn't come from perfection, it comes through faithful movement, walking with the Lord, and especially in those times when we can't see everything that's coming next. You know, I can remember so many times over the years. One in particular, I felt like the Lord was saying, after making traditional baskets for over 15 years, he started saying, Matt, you know, elevate the basket, elevate the basket. I had no clue what that meant. But I leaned into it, I started researching, I started kind of dreaming about what that was. And listen, that one nudge, that one little journey with the Lord creatively led me into this whole thing that I started doing of sculptural basketry that I'm still working in over 17 years later. Listen, if I had ignored that, not only would I have missed all the beautiful creative fulfillment that God had for me in that, I would have also missed the provision that was attached to that nudge. Listen, friend, if you don't honor the seeds that God gives you, you'll never be able to see the harvest that those seeds were intended to produce. Now, the second way that God supernaturally provides for you as an artist is actually through the creative gift that He's already given you. Remember, if God gave you an idea, He's also given you the ability to do something with it. That comes on board, right? When you were created by Him. Listen, the Bible says that your gift actually makes room for you and it'll take you before great people. But here's the tension a lot of artists feel like their gift is useless, like it's not good enough, especially in maybe traditional church settings where creativity is not always understood or valued. So they assume things like, well, my gift must not really matter. It must not be important. But listen, your creative gift did not come from culture, it came from God supernaturally. And it's not just expressive, it's actually functional in his kingdom. Your gift is to be designed to be the vehicle that God uses to impact the lives of others and yes, also to bring fulfillment and provision to you. But listen, that gift has got to be developed. And this happens through what I call being filled and skilled. You know, just like God did with Bezalel in Exodus 31, God fills you with his spirit, and then he invites you into this process of growing your gift as you walk in excellence with him. Listen, that means showing up consistently in the studio, right? Practicing and learning and refining and getting better at what you do and letting the Holy Spirit guide that development. See, excellence in your craft isn't, you know, striving in your own strength, it's stewardship. And it lets God know that we honor the gift that He's given us. Now, listen, I want to pause here for a second because so many artists that I meet here on the channel, but you know, the issue isn't that God hasn't given you any ideas, right? Or that you don't have a gift. The issue is that things like fear and self-doubt and disappointment from the past have actually caused you to question all of that. So instead of moving forward in what God's given you, you end up hesitating and second-guessing and you end up holding yourself back. Listen, if that's you, I want you to know you're exactly who I created the Created to Thrive foundations course for. Because until you get grounded in your identity in Christ and allow him to heal those places in your heart, you'll just you'll keep doubting the very thing that God's trying to use to bring provision into your life. I designed the foundations course to help you break that cycle once and for all so that you can move forward with clarity and confidence and creative freedom in Christ. Listen, if you're serious about seeing God's provision actually show up in your life, I want to invite you to check out foundations. And I'll be, I'll be sure to give a link right here below so that you can find out all the information and be a part of it today. All right, so the third way that God provides for artists is actually through supernatural favor. I love this because God's favor is like an accelerator, but you really got to understand this. Favor is not something that you got to beg God for, right? Favor, the favor of God in our life is the fruit of being a son, a daughter. You have favor because of who you are, not because of what you do, because because you're God's child, because he loves you. See, the Bible says that his favor surrounds you like a shield. That means it's already on your life as a child of God. And so here's how this works: as you start saying yes to the ideas that God gives you and you begin stewarding your gift, favor starts to accelerate things all around you, right? Doors start opening faster, opportunities come sooner, things begin to move that would normally take years. In fact, I remember when I first started seeing this happen in my in my life. I had an artist friend of mine that would been an artist for like 40 years. He was like, Matt, this, you know, building an art career usually takes like 30 years, and you're seeing it like just happen in a couple of years. Like, what in the world are you doing? Like I had some magic potion or whatever. And I was like, listen, it's just the favor of God. It wasn't because I earned it. It wasn't even because I was doing everything right. It was just because I was believing in my heart that I was walking in the favor of God and I was coming into alignment with everything that He had for me. Listen, this is so important, especially in those seasons that feel hidden. Because listen, hidden seasons don't mean you're not walking in the favor of God. It maybe means that God's preparing you. Maybe he's building something, maybe he's aligning something for you that you can't see and maybe setting things up behind the scenes. Listen, when you don't see it yet, the the key is don't quit, right? Keep walking. Because as you're walking in all this, you got to remember God's designed us to walk by faith and not by sight. Now, the fourth way that God supernaturally provides for artists is through what I call divine appointments. And again, I love this. It's so cool to see how God does this. This is where provision starts becoming visible, right? The right person at the right time, a conversation that opens a door, maybe an unexpected opportunity, moments that that you could not have planned or figured out if you tried, right? Listen, I guarantee if you're if you're like me, you can look back over your life right now and you'll probably see these kind of moments that God has provided for you over the years in hindsight. The moments where God connected you to somebody, somebody that you probably should have never met in a place that you should have never been in a in a moment that just changed everything. See, listen, that's not coincidence. That's not fate. That is God. That's how he works. He uses people and relationships and and opportunities as these channels of supernatural provision in your life of resources and encouragement and connections and yes, finances and even people who invest in you and help you grow in what God's called you to do. But listen, you have a responsibility to position yourself for that. You got to show up, right? You got to share your work in the marketplace. You got to be willing to connect with people because listen, provision, supernatural provision flows through connection, not through isolation. Now, the fifth way that God supernaturally provides for artists is through what I call the stuff that's already in your hand, right? It's where this really, really gets real for all of us because a lot of artists, and this has been me before, you know, we pray things like, oh God, I need a better studio or more tools or more space, or if I had these resources, or if I had this kind of money, I could I could leave my job and pursue being an artist. Listen, all those things are good. I prayed them just like you have, but God almost never starts with what you don't have, He always starts with what you do have in your hand. And that's super important to understand. He starts with what he's already given you. Listen, all throughout scripture, that's the pattern, right? Just think about it. What do you have right now that God's already given you? What space are you already in to create? What tools do you already have? What materials are you able to use and access? Listen, I get it. It may not be ideal, it may not be where you're going or what's what's in your heart, but listen, it's guaranteed enough to start. And when you start, that's where God meets you. See, provision doesn't begin with all this abundance, it begins with those simple yeses, those what's in my hand, what can I be obedient to now? And this is what brings me to that principle that I said I wanted to share with you that changed everything for me, because this principle multiplies all of this that we're talking about. See, in Matthew 25 in the parable of the talents, Jesus said, When you're faithful with little, I'll make your ruler over much. See, that's a kingdom principle. God multiplies abundantly what you steward faithfully. And listen, let me just bring this back to kind of an Uncle Matt uh reality jack here for you. Listen, God's not going to bless you with more if you haven't been faithful with what he's already given you. So listen, take the idea, act on it, develop your gift, walk in alignment with him, believe for favor, honor the relationships and opportunities that you have. And listen, use what's in your hand. And when you do that, that's when multiplication begins. And that's when provision begins to increase. Not because you chased money, right? But because you partnered with God in his plan for provision. And listen, when you do that, that's how you start stepping into the abundant life that Jesus promised you. Listen, I'd love to hear from you in the comments. I read every one. I'd love for you to let me know which one of these is making the most sense to you, maybe which one that you've overlooked in your life.
