306 - 5-Minute Mentoring: Using QR Codes In Your Art Business
Remember Blockbuster, Beanie Babies, Backstreet Boys? All popular with audiences in the late 90s to early 2000s, probably not coming back. In contrast, QR code marketing, once in decline, has become more popular than ever.
It seems like everywhere you look, QR codes (those little black-and-white square barcodes) are appearing on everything - tickets, restaurant menus, product packaging, and more. Since 2020, with the need for touch-free solutions, they're becoming a go-to staple for sales and marketing.
How can a simple scan of a square graphic help create a connection with your audience?
- ✔️ Send people to your website or social profiles
- ✔️ Share a video of your process
- ✔️ Provide details about your work
- ✔️ Track inventory of individual pieces
- ✔️ Sell from your online shopping cart
The possibilities are endless!
Using a QR code is a super-easy way to make technology work for you… even if you have no tech know-how. They can become a creative way to connect you with your audience.
If you're not already using QR codes, you're leaving lots of untapped potential for your art business. Because I'm not a fan of wasted opportunity, I'm sharing how QR codes are an asset you're going to want to adopt ASAP!

SPEAKER_00:Have you ever wanted to have someone in your life who you could ask real questions about your art, your business, and even your walk with the Lord? Well, that's exactly what we do every Friday here on 5-Minute Mentoring, where I answer one question from one of my awesome podcast listeners in order to help you start really thriving as the artist you know God created you to be. Well, hey, my friends. So glad that you're with me here today on 5-Minute Mentoring. I was answering questions as I do every week inside of our Created to Thrive Artist Mentoring Program. And somebody asked me, they're like, Matt, I'm kind of embarrassed to ask, but I'm not that tech savvy. And I keep hearing about QR codes over the last couple of years. What are they? And what should I be doing with them as an artist? And how do I make one? And where do I put it? And all that sort of thing. So listen, more than likely, if you've been around the last few years, you've seen QR codes. in a lot of different places. It's essentially a graphic link. It looks kind of like a barcode that you can actually open your phone up and scan, and it will take you to a hyperlink. So remember when the internet first came out and it was like, this is amazing. You can actually highlight the words on your website. And when you click it, OMG, you actually go to another website that you want to take people to. Well, the same thing's true with a QR code. except it happens through your phone on your smartphone. So when you actually click on your phone and let it focus in on that QR code, it will open usually a link in your browser and you can take people anywhere. You can take them to your YouTube page. You can take them to a page on your website. You can take them to a shopping cart. You can take them to a piece of an audio file. Whatever it is that you want to take them to online, you can do this. The reason this is so powerful is because it gives you such confidence immediate access to your client as they're looking at maybe your booth at a show and you want to have a little bit more conversation with them, you can put a QR code, for example, on your booth sign and say, click here to find out more about my work. And maybe it takes them to a quick YouTube video about your creative process or how you got started as an artist. Maybe if you're an author and you have, you know, you're an author and you have an offer that you want to take people to, for some additional free resources or whatever. You can put that inside of a book and boom, somebody clicks on that and it takes them right to the offer page on your website where they can opt in or whatever. Maybe it's to actually purchase something. Lots and lots of different opportunities. You can have them on your business cards, on your postcards. You can put them on the back of your art when you sell your art. Put a QR code on there and boom, it takes them to more information about what you do as an artist. Again, it's absolutely unlimited the things that you can use QR codes for. Again, just getting people quick access to be able to connect with you through whatever it is that you want to use as that medium of connection. Now, the question becomes, well, how do I make one? You know, you can actually go to Google and just Google free QR code generator. All right. Free QR code generator. There are tons of them out there. All right. I don't have any particular one that I like, but basically all you have to do is put in the URL or the website address of wherever you want that, you know, QR code to go to. And boom, it will, you know, you put that in there, hit create, it will generate that unique code and you can copy and paste that code or usually download it maybe as an image on your computer. And there you go. Every time somebody, you know, scams that QR code is going to go to that link that you have provided. So listen, I I'm sure your mind is running wild right now about lots of different ways that you could use QR codes. Just realize it's super easy. It's a way to make technology really, really work for you as an artist. And it's a way that you can start increasing connection with your potential clients right now. All right. Hey, thanks again for being here with me on 5-Minute Mentoring. If you're using QR codes in a really interesting way, make sure you go over to YouTube, find this video and comment below. Let me know what you're doing so that we can share our ideas on how to use QR codes in our art businesses. All right. Love you, my friend. Until next time, remember, you were created to thrive.
