298 - 5-Minute Mentoring: Raising Your Awareness of God's Presence.
There’s a holiday trend I’ve noticed recently where parents are encouraging potential gift-givers to consider giving their kids experiences like trips to the zoo, an afternoon movie outing, summer camp tuition, etc., rather than toys.
As a parent who remembers all too well being surrounded by piles of “stuff” around the Christmas tree, I really appreciate this trend towards giving the gift of time and memories.
The toys will break. The clothes will be outgrown. The games will lay forgotten.
But the stories and memories will live on forever.
It’s true about art, too.
The prophetic art we're now creating with God will eventually fade away...but the experience won’t.
If we become very aware of creating with our Father, we can treasure that family experience forever.
In this episode, we're talking about how to raise our awareness of the Holy Spirit's presence in the creative process. Awareness invites His transformation to flow to and through you, whatever you're creating with Him.

Have you ever wondered what it means to actually invite the Holy Spirit into your creative process? We're going to talk about that today here on 5-Minute Mentoring. Have you ever wanted to have someone in your life who you could ask real questions about your art, your business, and even your walk with the Lord? Well, that's exactly what we do every Friday here on 5-Minute Mentoring, where I answer one question from one of my awesome podcast listeners in order to help you start really thriving as the artist you know God created you to be. Hey, my friends, so glad that you are with me today here on 5-Minute Mentoring. Listen, one of the things that we are really passionate about is helping people to really engage the Holy Spirit in their creative process, to kind of disconnect from this idea that we're just working for God, doing things for God, that we're just kind of slaves in the process, servants of the Master only, that we don't have anything to do with this process, that somehow we're just supposed to be channeling the Holy Spirit It almost is just some sort of mechanism in the process of creativity when nothing could be further from the truth. You know, why do we invite the Holy Spirit into the creative process? Well, because that's God's intention. It's His intention for us to be intimately involved with Him on a daily basis in everything that we're doing. And as artists, that's no different in our creative process. So when I think about inviting the Holy Spirit into my creative process, I'm not thinking about Having to follow the rules per se, having to make it look like a certain way, having to have scripture on it, having to have a certain religious metaphor, that sort of thing. What I'm talking about when I talk about inviting the Holy Spirit into the creative process is for me to have the beautiful opportunity to hear his voice. to listen for him, to pay attention to the nuances of what's going on in my imagination, in my heart, the intuition that I'm feeling, how I'm feeling him speaking to me internally and externally. I'm wanting to have a conversation. See, life in the kingdom is all about walking with the Lord, not just doing things for him. And so as you are inviting him into the creative process, you're intentionally, if you will, tearing down this mindset that says, My art silo is over here. My spiritual life silo is over here. My regular life or my business life silo is over here. You're intentionally tearing those down and saying, Holy Spirit, I know. I know that you want to be intimately involved in every part of me, that as much as you saved me, you have filled me. And as much as you have filled me, you inspire me and you continue to lead and guide me in every part of my creative process. And so inviting the Holy Spirit into your creative process is not, again, about just trying to follow the rules or make it look good enough for God or being in some performance mentality or trying to fulfill some religious obligation. It's really about raising your awareness that Holy Spirit not only lives in you, but he's all around you. He's wanting to speak to you. He's wanting not only to flow his transformation inside of you during the creative process, but also through you, through the work of your hands or whatever it is you do creatively. So whether you're a singer, whether you're a songwriter, whether you are a painter or a basket weaver or a sculptor or a jeweler or a metal artist or whatever it is, it doesn't matter. Creative expression is all a gift from the Lord and it all has the opportunity to release his light and life. as we engage the Holy Spirit in our creative process. So listen, I hope you'll take time today. Whatever you're doing, whatever your creative process looks like, take a little bit of time and just say, Holy Spirit, I want to raise my awareness. I want to listen for your voice. I want to look for the clues. I want to sense your presence. And as I do, I believe that I'm going to be transformed and that you're going to release your transformation through the work of my hands. Hey, my friend, I love you very much. I Creating with the Holy Spirit what it means to be the thriving artist that God has called you to be. A great place to start with that is my brand new book called Prophetic Art. Woohoo! I want you to get it. I want you to grab it on Amazon. You can get it in print. You can get it in Kindle. You can even get it on audiobook. And it's a quick read, quick listen, but it's full not only of great teaching, but also a lot of glory stories from artists just like you who are inviting the Holy Spirit into their creative process and seeing God to do some amazing, amazing things. All right. Well, listen, I love you. Until next time, remember, you were created to thrive. All right, bye.
